Reflecting on his past, he remarked, “At the time, I was delighted. Boarding school in Manchester, it was all very exciting. But now, I look back and think: ‘God, I was so young’.” This pivotal decision reshaped his future, leading to a career that now spans Europe, America, and the Middle East.
At 31, Sughayer’s performances have garnered praise at various international festivals and orchestras, with a repertoire that includes works by notable Armenian composer Aram Khachaturian. Mission During the Pandemic
The global pause caused by the pandemic provided Sughayer with a critical moment for introspection on his role within the music community and how he could contribute to it. He articulated a conviction that “no child should have to leave their country to pursue music,” citing his own privilege in being able to do so. This reflection spurred him to action.
In response, Sughayer opened a music school in Amman, located in the very institution he once attended. The school now serves students aged four to eighteen and is managed remotely, with a team of dedicated educators assisting in its operations. He takes particular joy in observing the personal growth of students, such as shy children blossoming into confident performers. Sughayer emphasized, “I’m not trying to make performers; I want to create better humans who carry music with them, whatever they do.”
