Beirut, 2024 — KAĪYA, a fashion label founded in Beirut by Lebanese activist Lana El-Khalil, seamlessly fuses creative design with a commitment to social activism. Emerged during the turbulent times marked by the conflict in Gaza and the cross-border unrest in Lebanon, the brand began as a personal endeavor amid widespread displacement and chaos. El-Khalil described the experience as transformative, stating that amidst sleepless nights and active organizing, she found a deep personal urge to counteract destruction with creativity and life.

Integrating Humanitarian Efforts into Fashion

During the early phases of the war, the team temporarily paused their atelier operations to establish a school offering shelter and resources to displaced individuals. Collaborating with volunteers from the Beirut Marathon, they catered to essential needs ranging from food to medical care. Once the situation stabilized, the team resumed fashion production, maintaining their commitment to community support.

El-Khalil has also dedicated herself to long-term engagement with the Sabra and Shatilla Palestinian Refugee Camp. There, she conducts creative workshops for children, utilizing leftover fabric scraps from KAĪYA’s production to craft blankets. This initiative embodies the brand’s belief in intertwining sustainability with empowerment, transforming materials that would otherwise be waste into valuable tools for social engagement.

Supporting Animal Welfare Initiatives

In addition to humanitarian projects, KAĪYA extends its support to Animals Lebanon, a non-profit organization focused on animal rescue efforts in conflict zones. The brand offers the “Land Remembers” hoodie, which symbolizes ancestral connections to the land and serves as a fundraising tool for the organization’s operations.
